Girl Talk

Girl Talk is an original 17-minute film I created with Matthew Villena in the Fall of 2019. It’s a mock episode of a talk show centered around my relationship with my three brothers, Will (24), Sam (19), and Nate (18). As a short of genderf*cked Jimmy Fallon-Ellen hybrid host, I lead my guests through discussing topics mainly around love and relationships, from lighthearted musings (celebrity crushes) to the heavier stuff (our parents’ divorce). The piece was shot in my parents’ basement over Thanksgiving weekend.

This piece was inspired by a variety of talk shows, namely “Kris”, the 1-season 16-episode talk show hosted by Kris Jenner which centered her family members and their personal lives as the main news and interviews. I was also inspired by the work “Ricerche: three” by Sharon Hayes, wherein she facilitates debates on topics of love and sexuality through an microphone-centered interview format with 35 students from Mount Holyoke College.
